HOW WE INSPIRE SUSTAINABILITY

We strive to design, produce and package our creations in a manner that inspires and implements sustainability. Our core design principles of beauty and sustainability are our core business principles, too.

MATERIALS:

We encourage the use of materials that have the least devastating impact on the environment and its people. We do not use diamonds because they are not well regulated and sales of the stones have been proven to aid terrorist organizations. We seek to work with stones whose cultivation does not promote unfair labor practices and purchase stones from artisanal miners or companies that adhere to fair trade principles. Gold mining is associated with human rights abuses and environmental devastation. DIAZ Jewelry is crafted in sterling silver and set with the finest precision-cut created stones and semi-precious stones. The jewels are guaranteed to be unassociated with violence, war, human rights abuses and mass geologic devastation.

LABOR:

We maintain our belief in the benefit of hand crafting each piece of DIAZ jewelry at a workshop locally, where designer can meet and discuss processes with craftsmen. At a time when so many jewelers are moving production overseas to cut costs, we can proudly guarantee our quality - because we care, not only about the materials we use, but how our jewelry is made. Fair wages are paid and a healthy work environment is ensured. We are ethical in dealings with all stakeholders.

PACKAGING:

By reducing our use of paper and by using paper made with postconsumer recycled fiber, we consume less of the Earth's forests. We believe that paper should not be made with virgin wood fiber taken from trees harvested in endangered forests, and that it should be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Our gift boxes are made using 30% Post Consumer Recycled Fiber, 70% FSC certified fiber. The paper is made carbon neutral and manufactured with 100% renewable green energy. DIAZ jewelry is wrapped in handmade protective packaging made from recycled mulberry leaves.
In our goal to minimize the consumption of resources (wood, water, chemicals and energy), we carefully select and work with forward looking suppliers and printers who are open and proactive, and who are progressive considering the entire life cycle of paper and printing method.

PHILANTHROPY:

We believe in promoting socially responsible business practices that respect human beings and the environment. We hope to contribute in the direction of solving issues a step at a time with the help and support of those who share our beliefs.

2007-2009: DIAZ partnered with non-profits Amnesty International Japan, One Sky & the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone to donate a percentage of sales towards diamond mine reclamation and organic agriculture projects in mining towns of Sierra Leone - a country devastated by civil war, conflict diamonds, and environmental devastation as a result of indiscriminate alluvial diamond mining.

2010-: DIAZ joins 1% for the Planet to donate 1% of sales to environmental organizations. 1% for the Planet exists to build and support an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. The environmental challenges we face are enormous. The need for businesses to lead the way is even bigger. Since 2002, 1% for the Planet has inspired members of the business community to contribute 1% of sales to environmental groups around the world.
